Critters

November 24, 2022

To celebrate our 40th anniversary, Julia and I spent a couple of days in Rockport. While we were there, we spent an afternoon at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Now, my iPhone SE doesn’t have the greatest camera, and I’m far from a great photographer, but I can share a few pictures that didn’t turn out too bad.

The temperature was about 54°F (12 °C) so the alligators weren’t very active. If you look near her head, you might be able to make out some baby alligators.

This guy was a bit bigger.

We saw lots of birds, but I didn’t get very good pictures of them, except this one of these vultures roosting just before the sun went down.

We saw egrets, herons, whooping cranes, and at least one roseate spoonbill. We also saw quite a few white tail deer and javelinas.

The next day we went to the beach and saw some pelicans. There were also a lot of dead jellyfish along the shore.

I voted

The ancient Greek word for a person who doesn’t participate in politics, by at least voting, is ιδιώτης, or in Latin letters idiotes. Yes, that is where our word “idiot” comes from. Don’t be an idiot!
