Conference was batty

April 5, 2009

Last night during Pres. Uchtdorf‘s talk in Priesthood session about avoiding distractions, a bat flew into the chapel in our Stake Center and spent most of the rest of the session flying around distracting people. It disappeared shortly before the end of the session, but they called a bat catcher to come get it. It was never found, though; it may still be hiding out somewhere in the Stake Center.

I should probably point out for those who don’t know that Austin has one of the largest urban bat colonies in the world, and Round Rock has a pretty good sized colony as well, so seeing bats around here is not uncommon. They don’t come to church often, though.

I still remember a stake conference we attended in the Provo tabernacle in our early married years. There was a wasps’ nest in a window near the back, so wasps were flying around everywhere! I don’t think any of us in the back got anything out of the meeting…we were too busy dodging the wasps (and some of the men were trying to kill them by luring them into open hymn books and then slamming them shut)! At least none of the speakers were talking about distractions…at least, I don’t think they were!

PS–In New York, a bat got into our house once in the middle of the night. Luckily, Frank was able to catch it and take it outside!

Hee hee, did anyone NOT get distracted?
